About the Local Area

Duckthorpe Grange is situated about a mile outside the rural village of Marshchapel
 with it's beautiful 13th.century church (St.Mary's).

Being on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds gives an abundance of fabulous walks.

About a mile away is Covenham Reservoir which is a good place for bird watching and having a nice stroll around the top
(ideal for the fit).

Horseshoe Point which although mostly salt marsh is part of an RSPB Reserve which offers very pleasant walks
along the bank top either to Humberston to the north or to the air force bombing range of Donna Nook to the south.

Donna Nook is one of the most accessible sites for Spotting Seals especially during November and December, which is their breeding time. Last year over 1,000 pups were listed and recorded; so it's well worth a visit.
Donna Nook can be also reached easily by car by using the coast road to North Somercotes,
then turning left and follow the signs; approximately 8 miles from Duckthorpe Grange.

There are many interesting places to visit locally; Louth a very busy market town about 11 miles away. Market days are: Wednesday, Friday & Saturday, with plenty of great places for dining; lunch & evenings.

Horncastle, is another country market town which is also famous for its Antique shops,
so if you like to browse and look at our past. It also boasts some great eating places.

Alford is also another country market town, where on Bank holidays they host an excellent craft fair.

A little further a field is the medieval city of Lincoln, about an hour's drive away, with lots to do.

Visit Lincoln Castle with the earliest prison used by the city to house people
before transporting them to Australia, well worth the visit.
Plus the superb Lincoln Cathedral which was a film location for the "Davinci Code" , also the shopping area in Bailgate.

Or take a stroll down Steep Hill, but remember, you will have to make it back to the top again
and there is much, much more!! Plus the "Christmas Market" in early December.

Why not combine your visit with an early morning trip to Donna Nook & make it a weekend away!
